Insights into Airport Traffic
When we find an interesting data in an inaccessible form, it is irresistible to make an exploratory app to unlock the data. That was the case when our Head of Strategic Accounts, Brion Lee, found the historical air traffic data for US airports from FAA.gov. He transformed the raw data files into an excellent data experience that you can try out here.
Cruising through the data, he found a number of interesting insights. In particular, different airports were able to recover from the massive 2020 Covid pandemic decline at different rates. Here are a few insights:
The South region has seen the strongest growth and recovery from the Covid travel decline.
Nashville and Austin have more than doubled their passenger volume in the past 10 years.
Despite recovering from Covid declines, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee were the only airports to decrease in passenger volumes over the last 10 years.
